NASCAR WCUP: Schrader always looks forward to racing, especially at Bristol

26 August 1999

SCHRADER'S THOUGHTS HEADING INTO THE GOODY'S HEADACHE POWDER 500:

* "I always look forward to short track racing," said Ken Schrader, driver of the Skoal Racing Monte Carlo. "The Skoal Racing team has a strong short track program. If we stay out of the wrecks, we're most likely going to have a solid run.

"Bristol is one of my favorite tracks. I like the short tracks because the driver is more of a factor than the car. The performance on superspeedways and intermediate tracks are based on aerodynamics and horsepower. You can pretty much throw those factors out at the short tracks."

CREW CHIEF SHOP TALK:

* "We're taking the same car we ran at Bristol in April," said Sam Johns, crew chief for the Skoal Racing team. "We ran this car at Dover in June, but wrecked it. Although it looked pretty bad, it was mostly sheet metal damage.

"The Skoal Racing team has a good short track program, so we're definitely looking forward to getting back to some of those tracks. We're real focused on putting together a string of strong finishes and hopefully gain some positions in the point standings."

SKOAL RACING TEAM NEWS:

* Schrader and the Skoal Racing team will head to Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis, Mo., on Monday to test the 2000 Monte Carlo. This will mark the first test session for the new body design. There will be several other NASCAR Winston Cup teams testing at the facility.
