USAC: Ellison notches first Sprint Car win at Carson City

24 August 1999

Todd Ellison of West Jordan, Utah scored his first victory in the USAC Western Sprint Car Series Saturday night, winning the 30-lap feature at Silver State Raceway in Carson City, Nev. driving the Custom Industries/Temple's Machine/Central Body Shop Special.

Ellison led the final eight laps of the race after taking the lead when Shauna Hogg retired from the race with a broken drive line. Hogg would have become USAC's first female Sprint car feature winner, but finished 19th after leading the first 22 laps on the 1/4-mile paved oval.

Bobby McMahan, Ken Hamilton, Tom Stansberry and Mike McCreary rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag.

Western Sprint Car Series point leader Bud Kaeding finished seventh but retains a 107-point lead over Rick Hendrix, who was sixth in the Carson City 30-lapper. The series now prepares for a September 11 race at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park.
