SCCA: Formula Pro Racing Series to Kick Off Inaugural Race at the New Thompson Speedway
20 August 1999
Formula Pro Racing is a new and exciting formula racecar sanctioning body established to promote and regulate a special series of races in the Formula Continental (F2000) class. The Inaugural race will be held in conjunction with the New Thompson Speedway's weekend show of NASCAR Featherlight Modifieds and other Stock Car racing divisions.
This race and the Weekend of Speed event in October will be open tire rules with a purse in excess of $1400.
Wanting to introduce regular weekly fans to open wheel excitement, this legendary NASCAR oval has welcomed Formula Pro Racing into their ranks.
Series Creator and FPR President Alan Chou comments, "The savvy NASCAR open wheel fan will certainly appreciate our type of wheel to wheel racing, our rear engine INDY type cars translate well to Modified racing fans as who recognize what purpose built pure race cars are all about!"
Corporate Marketing Partners Valvoline, Bosch and Yokohama and Keister Racing Components will be conducting product and prize giveaways at all participants at all Formula Pro Racing races.
Media and Marketing Director Paul E. Hubert is excited about the marketing opportunities. "Formula Pro Racing opens up a whole new marketing arena to race teams and potential sponsors. Formula car racing with Indy type cars racing in front of oval and road racing audiences is something that is creating incredible interest on all fronts! The fact that the series rules are designed to restrict cubic bucks from determining the result and showcase talented drivers and teams, is the key to its success!"

More about Formula Pro Racing
Eligibility
As an experienced Formula 2000 driver, you are invited to participate in this series. The series targets Formula Continental 2-liter cars, which have a manufacture date of 1995 or earlier. Our goal is to provide a series where the drivers - not deep pockets - will determine the outcome. The series recognizes SCCA regional licenses and higher, EMRA competition licenses, and several other race organizations. All cars must meet SCCA B class specs. Drivers must have completed a minimum of 8 races in a Formula Continental prior to applying for a license with Formula PRO Racing.
Venues
At press time, we have scheduled races to be held on 2 ovals in Connecticut. The 1999 season includes 2 races on the storied 5/8-mile track at Thompson, CT. We are actively pursuing road course dates to be added in the near future. In the interim, these two challenging ovals will provide an exciting launch for our new series.
Exciting sponsorship opportunities
As racers, we are keenly aware of the costs involved in the sport. Sponsorship is tough to come by for club racers. Formula Pro Racing will run as part of the regular weekend show at these venues, in front of thousands of fans! If you are looking for a sponsor this creates exciting opportunities for you, and potential sponsors. Press releases will be dispatched to the media (both paper and electronic). The releases will provide details on the race, and each driver posting a podium finish.
