NASCAR BGN: Schrader to make sixth start in Busch Series at Michigan

NASCAR Winston Cup regular Ken Schrader has started five of the seven NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division, races held at Michigan Speedway. He has three top-10 finishes in those five starts.

"Michigan is a flat track, much like Pocono," said Schrader. "I have struggled a lot at flat tracks and don't typically like them, but I have had some success running my own car in the Busch Series races at Michigan. Flatter tracks use a completely different set-up than the higher banked tracks, but we have improved our set-ups there over the last few years."

The car the Oakwood Homes team is taking to Michigan is the same car they finished 12th with at Charlotte earlier this year. The car had two top-10 finishes last year.

"On television, it looks like the corners have a lot of banking, but they don't," said Chris Carrier, crew chief of the Oakwood Homes Chevrolet. "The straightaways are long, but the corners are flat. The set-up for Michigan is very different than a track like Charlotte. It is the same type of thinking as a set-up for Daytona or Talladega, just not as extreme. You have to have a good motor, a good body and the handling needs to be just right. "If I was a race fan and had to pick a race I would buy a ticket for, it would be Michigan. There are three grooves, so there is a lot of passing and it provides a great show for the fans."
