NASCAR WCUP: MCI WorldCom to sponsor LJ Racing at the Glen, Jack Baldwin to drive

10 August 1999

(Mooresville, NC.)-- MCI WorldCom will sponsor LJ Racings #91 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the Watkins Glen Winston Cup Series race on August 15, 1999. Road race specialist Jack Baldwin will be in the drivers seat for the race.

We are happy to have MCI WorldCom sponsor our effort with the 1992 TransAM Champion Jack Baldwin. This will allow us to put forth our best effort for the race, said team owner Joe Falk. LJ Racing is excited about returning to a road course. They led their first Winston Cup Series race last year at a road course during the Save Mart 350 at Sears Point Raceway; the team went on to finish 16th. Furthermore, Jack Baldwin qualified and finished fourth in the Busch Grand National race at Watkins Glen this past June.

Having the road racing expertise of Jack Baldwin coupled with the LJ Racing team, the decision to take advantage of an opportunity like this was an easy one, said Andy Deas, Director of MCI WorldCom Sports. MCI WorldCom Sports Marketing is a group within MCI WorldCom that spearheads all of MCI WorldComs sports initiatives, including series sponsorships in NASCAR, CART, IRL, Indy Lights, Toyota Atlantic and Historic Sportscar Racing. In addition, MCI WorldCom has team sponsorships in the CART FedEx Championship Series and the Toyota Atlantics Series with Arciero/Wells; in the Indy Racing League with Kelley Racing; and in Formula-1 with Stewart Grand Prix.

Thanks to MCI WorldCom, along with other great sponsors like INVINCA-Shield and Larrys Homes, LJ Racing is on a solid track for the remaining 1999 Winston Cup season.
