NHRA: JEG's Mail Order Racing Pit Notes, Sears Point
7 August 1999
After spending time relaxing in Napa Valley the Pro Stock duo returned to the quarter mile battle field. Jeg and Troy both have their sights set on winning and moving up in the NHRA Winston point standings. Jeg is in the number four position coming into the Autolite Nationals and trails Jim Yates by a 62 points. Troy is currently resting in the number six spot and ready to make a charge for the number five spot, which is a mere 13 points away.Jeg Coughlin/Pro Stock:
In the first qualifying session Jeg was in the right lane. The car took off and headed straight down the middle of the groove. The run looked good, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. Jeg said, "We made a full pass and didn't abort the run, which was our goal going into the first session. Making a full pass out of the trailer gives us more data to look at and helps us to find the optimum setup."
Jeg was in the left land for the second session. The team decided to raise the wing in the burnout box after watching Troy's run. Jeg took off like a rocket from the starting line beams. The yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass followed the middle of the groove like it was on a string. Jeg and the men in yellow and black jump up to the number one spot. "The car felt good from the minute I left the starting line. The car was pulling all the way down the track and I could feel that it was a much better run," noted Coughlin.
Troy Coughlin/Pro Stock:
Troy pulled into the right lane for session number one. The #24 yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order machine blasted off of the starting line. The car headed toward the center line at 60' feet out and hunted for the groove after the rear of the car moved around. The car lost traction and Troy was forced to shut off. "The setup was a little off and the car and track didn't respond well together. We have good data for the first 100' feet for my car and can make assumptions for the rest of the track by looking at my brothers data," said Troy.
Troy was in the second pair and lined up in the left lane for the second session. The #24 JEG'S Mail Order machine launched from the starting line with authority. The car was darting down the middle of the groove until it got past half track. When the car got just past the half track mark the rear of the car started moving around. The car moved from side-to-side and Troy wisely put the clutch in and coasted to the finishline. Troy remains on the outside looking in with two sessions remaining to break into the field.
