NASCAR GDS: Legal Action Taken Against NASCAR Sponsor
5 August 1999
Cherryville, NC--Control Racing of Cherryville, NC announced today that it has taken legal action against Invinca-Shield Inc. and is dropping them as its primary sponsor. Invinca-Shield,Inc., an Elkin, NC based company that manufactures protective 3M film kits has failed to comply with their financial commitment to the Control Racing team. The #49 NASCAR Goody's Dash Team with driver and owner, Rusty Wise, has not raced since the May Charlotte Race due to Invinca-Shield's lack of financial support."This has really been hard on my race team, states Wise. We were so pumped up for this season. We wanted to go after the rookie title. Our sponsorship contract, when it was signed by Invinca- Shield President, Daniel Bauguess, for the 1999 season, would have kept us in good shape. We were supposed to have all the money before the February Daytona race, but it has been really a struggle to collect any sponsorship money from Invinca-Shield. Motorsports marketing is a great way to advertise for companies that can afford it, but for the ones that can't, it really makes it hard on the team. The decision to stay home after the Charlotte race was entirely a business decision made by me."
Wise hopes to find another primary sponsor for the remainder of the season now that his team will no longer be representing Invinca-Shield as the primary sponsor.
