NHRA: JEG's Mail Order Pit Notes, Friday
31 July 1999
Just like the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Jeg and Troy Coughlin continued their expedition through the two races remaining on the West Coast swing. The JEG'S Mail Order Racing Team comes into the Prolong Super Lubricants Northwest Nationals with plenty of momentum. Pro Stock brother's Jeg and Troy have had back-to-back all-JEG'S final rounds. The JEG'S team is clearly the team to watch and the team to beat.Jeg Coughlin/Pro Stock:
Jeg ended the first qualifying session resting in the number seven position. The car didn't make a very efficient run and did not use the DART/Maskin horsepower very effectively. "We have plenty left to throw at this track. The setup that we gave the car was a little too aggressive and we have a much better understanding of what the car and track want," said Coughlin. During the second session Jeg was the last car down the track in the right lane. The car launched and immediately took off to the left. Jeg stayed with it and drove the JEG'S machine back to the center of the groove. Coughlin noted, "The car was upset from the minute I got to the 60' foot clock. The car reacted to the setup by shooting me to the left." The team is looking through all of the data that was generated and reviewing the video to determine what the problem is and how to fix it for tomorrow. Jeg slipped one spot and lands in the number eight position.
Troy Coughlin/Pro Stock:
During the first qualifying session the #24 yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order machine looked unsettled on the track. The car moved around a fair amount down track, while searching for the middle of the groove. Troy ended the first session temporally resting in the number twenty-one spot. Troy said, "The team learned from our first run. We know what to do and we have a very firm handle on what the car wants in the way of a setup."
Troy took on the left lane during the second qualifying session. The car blasted off of the starting line and headed straight down the middle of the groove. This run was an improvement over his prior run. "The run that we made was better, but we still have more get out of the car and engine combination," stated Coughlin. Troy moved upto the number twelve spot and has two additional session to improve.
