NASCAR BGN: Buckshot Jones Track Notes, Gateway International

29 July 1999

"I like the track in St. Louis and am looking forward to racing there again. Both times we've been to St. Louis, we had a good car and ran well. I thought we had a good shot at winning last year, but we had problems with the car late in the race. Hopefully, this year, our luck will be better."

-- Buckshot Jones, Driver No.00 Cheez-It Pontiac

* St. Louis Blues

In both Busch Grand National races held at Gateway International Raceway, Buckshot Jones and the No.00 team have been a contender for the win until misfortune destroyed their hopes of bringing home the checkered flag. Midway through the inaugural race in 1997, Jones was running in the top-five until hitting the turn two wall. Bad luck struck again in 1998 when an oil line fitting came loose while he was leading with less than 30 laps remaining in the race.

* Gateway's Fastest

In the 1998 Carquest Auto Parts 250, Buckshot Jones turned the quickest lap in Busch Grand National competition at Gateway International Raceway. His lap time of 34.550 seconds (130.246 mph) on lap 164, earned Jones the Fast Pace Award, improving the previous record of 35.314 seconds (127.428 mph) set by Ricky Craven in 1997.

* Lap Leader

Of 16 total Busch Grand National race leaders at Gateway International Raceway, Buckshot Jones is ranked third in laps led with 43.

* No.00 Cheez-It Pontiac

The No.00 Cheez-It team is fielding the same Pontiac that Larry Pearson piloted at Nazareth Speedway two months ago. Pearson started the First Union 200 in 37th position, but was involved in an accident early in the race, resulting in a 30th place finish.
