TRACKS: Hiers Disqualified as Osteen Wins, Moore Collects Bounty at St. Augustine

St. Augustine, Fl. - Late Model action was mainly after the race as Chuck Hiers protested Larry Osteen's car. Under a new rule at St. Augustine Speedway if there is a protest tear down the protester also gets tore down.

Osteen was found legal and declared the winner but Hiers was deemed illegal and DQ from his second place finish. The top five is now Larry Osteen, second Donnie Oden, followed by Chris Tedder, David Showers, and Richard Ferry. Osteen was also fast qualifier.

The Ministock were first up in the features Jake Hartley led all 20 laps holding off all challengers to take the checkers. Steve Thompson came in second, with Mickey Leth coming from shotgun on the field to take third. Rounding out the top five was Jay Farris, and Mike Ponce. Hartley and Kevin Burkett were the heat winners.

Alan Moore became the bounty Hunter in the Thunder Trucks main event as he the entire 25 laps to beat Ricky Cooper and take the $300 bounty. Cooper put up a good battle coming from the tail of the field to pressure Moore but couldn't pull off the pass settled for second. The rest of the top five was Wade Lynn at the right place at the right time as Andy Waldron and Brent Hobbs tangled in turn four on the last lap giving third to Lynn. After Lynn was battered Hobbs and Waldron.

Snap-On Sportsman raced under a new format Saturday as the 50 lap feature was made a twin 25 lap race with a five minute stoop at halfway. Fast qualifier and leader of the 50 laps was Todd Ponce. Chasing Ponce was Nick Pilinko, Kenny Hall, Don "DOC" Halliday, and "BO" Allen.

George Thrift, III was driving a new car for the Rick's Mufflerman's Modifieds Saturday but it didn't slow him down. Thrift sat on the pole and led all 35 laps to take the win. Chasing Thrift was Justin 'Wild Child" Moore, Robert Deal, newcomer Darren Jackson, and Mark Bergman.

Hobbystocks had the two heat winners Jimmy "HotDog" Bunn and Grady "Diceman" Lindquist battling for the lead all 20 laps. Finally Bunn took the checkers followed by Lindquist, Points Leader Rodney Norman, Bobby Thorton, and Randy Wilkes.
