NASCAR BGN: Myrtle Beach Not Always Fun for Grubb
16 July 1999
Kevin Grubb enjoys a day at the beach. But spending the day at Myrtle Beach Speedway hasn't always been a vacation for the Mechanicsville, Virginia resident."Every time I race there, I leave feeling like I was stuck in a hurricane," said Grubb, driver of the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "I've raced in two races there and both were a mess.
"The first time was a few years ago in a late model. I was fast in practice but only made two laps in the race before the engine blew. Last year, I ran the Busch Series race and it was one of the most frustrating of my career. I qualified 11th but the setup was all wrong for the race. After making it past halfway, I thought I might be able to grab a decent finish but a couple of laps later, the engine broke."
The No. 37 Chevrolet which Grubb is scheduled to wheel around the 0.538 mile Myrtle Beach Speedway in Saturday's Myrtle Beach 250 NASCAR Busch Series race is the same car he qualified second fastest with in the series most recent short track race at South Boston Speedway in June. "This car is one of our best," added Grubb. "We've run it a few times this year and each times it's been stout."
GRUBB GIVES TIMBER WOLF TEAM AN A' IN GATEWAY TEST':
On July 6, Kevin Grubb and the Timber Wolf/Brewco Motorsports team held a two-day test session at Gateway International Raceway earning high marks.
"The test went great," said Grubb. "We took a brand new race car which the team just completed. It's an awesome piece. The car was totally responsive, allowing us to get better and better on each run. We didn't have to waste time trying to chase the car. The Timber Wolf crew deserves all the credit. They worked hard to make this car perfect and did a fantastic job. They need to build six more just like this one."
