NASCAR BGN: LaJoie Looks Ahead to Myrtle Beach
14 July 1999
"Im excited about going back to Myrtle Beach, especially since I won there last year."Last year, we qualified well, and that gave us good track position, but I also think the competition cautions helped us. Because the pits are so tight at Myrtle Beach, its necessary for us to have competition cautions. A competition caution basically gives the crews a chance to make any adjustments to the car safely, because we cant loose any positions on the track. Safety is always a concern, especially when we visit tracks that dont have roomy pit roads.
"Myrtle Beach is notorious for being one of the hottest places we race. Were going to try something new this weekend. Ive never run with a cool box before, and I think Milwaukees race a few weeks ago changed my mind. The cool box circulates outside air through a box that lowers the temperature about 15 degrees and then the cooler air is vented through my drivers helmet to keep my body temperature down. We really should have tried the box out in Milwaukee, but we didnt. Hopefully if I can keep cool, I can bring home a victory for this Bob Evans team."
