NHRA: Team JEG'S To Take On The Mountain
12 July 1999
The familiar yellow and black colors of JEG'S Mail Order will return to Bandimere Speedway outside of Denver, CO. JEG'S Mail Order Racing is NHRA's largest all-family professional race team and is based in Columbus, Ohio.Jeg Coughlin, Jr. is the defending champion and is looking forward to defending his title. Troy Coughlin will take his momentum from the Winston NO BULL SHOWDOWN and attempt to translate it to a victory. Together the Pro Stock brother duo will use their highly successful two car team approach to winning. Bandimere Speedway is one of the most challenging races on the schedule for the Pro Stock class. The race track sits almost one mile above sea level, which brings very unique challenges to a normally aspirated engines that need oxygen to create horsepower.
Coming to a track as the defending champion always brings a little added pressure, but the '98 NHRA "Rookie of the Year" wouldn't have it any other way. Jeg said, "I don't really think much about last year and what I did. My job is to focus on this year. If the team does their job and I do mine winning is the final part of the equation." Jeg is in the number five position in the NHRA Winston Championship with 582 points. Coughlin is 19 points behind Richie Stevens and Jeg trails Jim Yates by 62 points.
Coughlin can move up to the number three position with a strong performance at the Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals. "Last year the West coast swing started off very strong, but we ran into problems after Denver. We learned a lot from our mistakes last year and we are better prepared for the West coast swing this year."
Troy Coughlin comes into the Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals with plenty of momentum. "We really have my JEG'S Mail Order machine running well. It took us some time to get some things sorted out, but now that we are back on track it's a great feeling. Richard Maskin and his staff at DART Machinery have been very busy improving our horsepower," stated Coughlin. Troy is currently in the number eight position in the '99 NHRA Winston Championship points.
With a win on the mountain Troy and his #24 yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass can move up as high as the number five spot in the points. Coughlin trails Mike Edwards by a mere 11 points, Allen Johnson is 78 points ahead and brother Jeg holds the number five position with 582 points. Troy said, "If we work as a team and properly execute our game plan, my first Pro Stock victory is within reach. We have an extremely talented team and everyone is working toward the same goal; winning!"
