JEG'S Mail Order RacingThursday Pit Notes
The NHRA Drag Racing Series invaded the Bristol Dragway today. This event is very unique for the entire Pro Stock field. Ten of the sixteen available positions were taken before a single car went down the track. The drivers who are automatically qualified are Warren Johnson, Jeg Coughlin, Kurt Johnson, Mike Edwards, Mike Thomas, Jim Yates, Allen Johnson, Mark Osborne, Tom Martino and Richie Stevens. There are six spots remaining in the field. Although some of the positions are filled the qualifying order will not be determined until the final qualifying session Friday night.
Jeg Coughlin/Pro Stock:
Jeg comes into this special event with plenty of momentum. The Winston NO BULL SHOWDOWN is a special event just like the Holley Dominator Duel, which Jeg won earlier this year.
During the first session Jeg was in the right lane. None of the teams or drivers have ever gone down this track so everyone was taking a gamble on their setups. The setup that the JEG'S Team put on Jeg's #2 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass paid off. Jeg moved into the second spot after the first of four qualifying sessions. Coughlin noted, "We are off to a good start and we have a good baseline to tune from."
During the second qualifying session the pair in front of Jeg ran into problems with the timing system. NHRA reviewed the calibration of the timing system and found that there were non errors. When Jeg made his run the timing tower posted a 6.97, which was deemed to be incorrect by NHRA. The NHRA competition department went back to work and made the decision to allow Jim Yates and Jeg Coughlin to make another run. The run had to be made at the end of the second Pro Stock qualifying session.
The familiar yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass lined up again in the left lane. The car launched hard off of the starting line and followed the groove all the way down the track. Jeg and the men in yellow and black move right to the number one spot with an impressive 7.00 @ 195.28 mph. Jeg commented, "I can't say enough about the team. They immediately went to work and made it possible for me to make this run, it couldn't have been done without team work. We made two run and did three burnouts in less then 30 minutes, that pretty impressive!"
Troy Coughlin/Pro Stock:
Troy took on the left lane in the first session. The yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order machine followed the groove all the way down the track. Troy blasted a 7.171, which put him in the number six position. The #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds was the second quickest of the non-qualifyied cars. Troy said, "It always feels good to make a nice run right out of the trailer, there's still room for improvement. That run gave us good direction."
In the second session Troy was in the right lane. The run looked great all the way down the track. Troy and his #24 JEG'S Mail Order machine was the fourth quickest pass of the session. "The run felt great. After reviewing the graph and all of our data, we still have more for the track," stated Coughlin. Troy is currently in the number four position and has two more qualifying session remaining to improve.
