NASCAR WCUP: Schrader Looking Forward to 'Flat Track' at New Hampshire
8 July 1999
SCHRADER'S THOUGHTS HEADING INTO THE JIFFY LUBE 300:* "Loudon is another flat track, but a wide flat track," said Schrader. "There is a preferred racing groove that is faster and Loudon's is on the bottom. There will be a second groove where you'll be able to pass, but it will take a while for it to get worked in.
"Loudon is a different track because it's not really a short track, but the racing it has looks a lot like short track racing. I like Loudon. It's a real good race track."
* Schrader has qualified in the top-10 in seven of the eight races at New Hampshire International Speedway. Schrader's 26th starting position in last year's Jiffy Lube 300 came after being disqualified for lead falling out of the Skoal Racing Monte Carlo during his qualifying run. His time of 29.768 seconds posted in second-round qualifying would have been fast enough for the outside pole.
CREW CHIEF SHOP TALK:
* "We're taking the same car we ran at Richmond in May," said Sam Johns. "It is a pretty good racecar. We had a decent run going at Richmond until we made contact with Tony Stewart exiting our pit stall. We've made some changes to the car before going to Loudon.
"Just by looking at Schrader's qualifying record there, I'm not worried about qualifying. He seems to get around the flat tracks real good. We'll be focusing on the race set-up."
SKOAL RACING TEAM NEWS:
* Schrader departed Daytona Beach, Fla., and headed westward for St. Louis, Mo. Schrader, along with about 100 friends and family, went on the Annual Float Trip down the Merramec River located outside St. Louis.
* Schrader is scheduled to race his late model stock car at Hales Corners Speedway in Franklin, Wis., on Tuesday. He will also be on hand at his track, I-55 Speedway in Pevely, Mo., on Wednesday night.
