NHRA: Team JEG'S Looking to Make Noise In The Valley

7 July 1999

The Pro Stock brother duo of Jeg and Troy Coughlin will fly the familiar yellow and black JEG'S colors at the inaugural Winston Showdown. Jeg automatically qualified for one of the ten reserved spots by winning the '99 AutoZone Nationals, earlier this year. The six open qualifying positions that remain will be a dog fight and one driver looking to get into the ring is Troy Coughlin.

'98 NHRA "rookie of the year" Jeg Coughlin said, "This is such a great idea for an event. Winston has been so supportive of the NHRA through the years. None of us would be where we are without such a strong partnership." There is a lot of excitement centered on this unique event. The race track has been completely rebuilt and a state of the art tower was erected to help make this event one of the most breath taking settings in NHRA Drag Racing. "All I have heard have been great things about the Brutton Smith's group. The bench mark of building a quality facility for the fans, racers and sponsors continues to get higher with facilities of this caliber," noted Jeg. The familiar #2 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass has plenty of momentum coming into Bristol. Jeg won the Holley Dominator Duel earlier this year, which is another non points earning event among the top eight Pro Stock drivers in qualifying points.

Troy Coughlin and the entire JEG'S Mail Order Racing team will use all of their resources to secure Troy a spot in the six available qualifying positions. Troy said, "I am looking at this race as a clean start to the rest of my season. The '99 NHRA season is half completed and there is no points chase pressure for this event." Troy is currently number eight in the '99 NHRA Winston Championship and is coming off of two straight DNQ's. "We have been plagued with some bad luck lately and we haven't executed our plan properly as a team." The conditions of the race track are expected to be identical to a NHRA national event even though this event is not a national event. "The stress of points will not be present. However, only having six open spots gives this race a very impressive twist to it. When the Winston Showdown is over I want to be the Pro Stock driver with a smile on my face," stated Troy.
