NASCAR GDS: Jimmy Britts Wins for the First Time
5 July 1999
SUMMERVILLE, SC. - Jimmy Britts took the lead at the midway point and remained out front through two late caution flags for his first career Goodys Dash Series win Saturday night winning the The Post & Courier/TV 5 Sky Fire 100 at Summerville Speedway. Britts, a former winner in several other touring divisions held off a hard-charging Jake Hobgood for the win. Rookies Brandon Head and Zach Brewer followed in third and fourth respectively while Eddie Kelley continued his consistent 1999 campaign completing the top five."This feeling (winning) is everything I thought it would be," said an ecstatic Britts in victory lane. "We had a great car and I want to thank Scott Weaver and everyone at Weaver Cars for providing us a great car tonight."
Britts rented Goodys Dash Series veteran Scott Weavers car after he lost a motor at Louisville last week. Britts qualified on the outside pole and took the lead from pole-sitter David Hutto on lap 49 when Huttos car swerved wide in turn one enabling Britts to pass on the inside.
Current Goodys Dash Series points leader Robert Huffman finished seventh after he was involved in two spins which damaged his car and ended any chance to add to his series leading four wins in 1999. Huffman and Hutto made contact in turn one while racing for second on lap 75 and Huffman also brought out the last of seven cautions on lap 102 when he backed into the turn two wall.
Hutto finished in sixth while Justin Hobgood, Ned Combs and Ricky Bryant followed Huffman to complete the top ten.
The Goodys Dash Series returns to action this Saturday when the NASCAR Touring Division makes its annual visit to Greenville-Pickens Speedway for the Expressions Unlimited, Inc. 100.
