NASCAR WCUP: Schrader Excited about Daytona
1 July 1999
SCHRADER'S THOUGHTS HEADING INTO THE PEPSI 400:* "I am real excited to get to Daytona," said Schrader. "The Pepsi 400 is a great race with a lot of tradition. It is even more exciting now that it's under the lights. It is a real neat experience racing wide open at night. Usually when we race at night, we're at a short track. It's a little more tricky at a restrictor plate race because you race side by side for almost the whole race, but you're also going a lot faster than at a short track.
"I am glad that we're actually racing on the weekend of July 4th. With all of the fires around Florida last year, the race was postponed. It was a terrible scene, I'm glad that isn't the case this year. I am also looking forward to the fireworks after the race. It's the best Fourth of July fireworks display I've ever seen."
CREW CHIEF SHOP TALK:
* "We're ready for Daytona," said Sam Johns, crew chief for the No. 33 Skoal Racing Chevrolet. "We're bringing back a good car. It is the same car that we raced in the Bud Shootout, but it is also the same car that almost won at Talladega in the fall of 1997. It is a real solid race car."
SCHRADER NUTS & BOLTS:
* Schrader will sign autographs at Hops Brewery (across from Winston Tower) on Friday, July 2, from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.
