IRL: Scott Goodyear Maintains Point Lead After Pikes Peak

28 June 1999

Scott Goodyear and the Pennzoil Panther Pack started today's Radisson 200 in the 14th position on the grid. The "Pack" had struggled with set-up and balance throughout practice and qualifying and things didn't come together til the very end for the car.

"Our car and tires were just off. We got faster after the last pit change but it was just too late in the race" said Team Owner and Manager John Barnes. "The Pack did a great job, picking up 5 spots on the first pit stop of the race but we just struggled."

Goodyear held on throughout the race as Chief Engineer Andy Brown made adjustments that were improving things as the day went forward but it was too late. "The car got better as we made changes but we were so far down from the beginning that we just couldn't make it up."

Even with today's 12th place finish, Goodyear and the Pennzoil Panther Pack maintain the points lead for the Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship with 164 points. Jeff Ward follows with 149, and Greg Ray at 131.
