World Sports Cars: Hybrid R&D Announces Sponsorship Deal with Globalstar Canada

ORANGE, Calif. - Hybrid R&D Racing announced today that Globalstar Canada will sponsor its World Sports Car team for The Grand Prix of Mosport, round three of the eight event 1999 American Le Mans Series schedule. Hybrid runs the No.15 Riley & Scott, driven by Chris Bingham of Bellevue WA, and Ross Bentley of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.Based in Mississauga, Ontario in Canada, Globalstar Canada is a low-earth-orbiting (LEO) satellite-based digital telecommunications system which will offer wireless telephone and other telecommunications services virtually worldwide beginning this fall. Globalstar will also provide affordable, basic telephony through fixed satellite telephones for those without access to telecommunications services.
Rod Everett, owner and team manager of Hybrid R&D Racing said he was very pleased to welcome Globalstar Canada to the team for its Canadian swing across North America. With a Canadian driver as part of the team, and the technological comparisons of our respective industries, the partnership is a natural fit, said Everett.
With the launch of our global handheld satellite service this fall, we saw a great opportunity to showcase Globalstar at Mosport to the Canadian market as well as to the worldwide ALMS audience said Peter White, General Manager.
Hybrid R&D Racing currently has the maximum available points in the American Le Mans Privateer standings after two races, and is fourth in the Prototype Team Standings with 27 points. Hybrid Drivers Chris Bingham and Ross Bentley are tied for eighth position with 27 points, just 20 points out of first place.
For Bentley, native of British Columbia in Western Canada, returning to Mosport is like visiting an old friend, as Bentley has raced there for the past 20 years. Bingham, of Bellevue, WA, on the other hand, will be racing at Mosport for the very first time.
