NASCAR WCUP: Ken Schrader Ready for Fun At Sears Point
22 June 1999
SCHRADER'S THOUGHTS HEADING INTO THE SAVE MART/KRAGEN 350:* "Road course racing is a really fun for the driver," said Schrader.
"I'm sure if you ask the crew, they'll tell you that it is the most boring race they go to. It isn't as much fun for the crew or the fans, but I really enjoy road courses. It is a little challenging for the driver because they're working harder at making left and right turns and braking a lot harder in the turns. I got ready for the road course last week , we went to a new road course in South Carolina. It got me in the mindset for making right turns, since I mostly turn left."
CREW CHIEF SHOP TALK:
* "We have a brand new car for this week's road course race," said crew chief Sam Johns. "We took Schrader and our new car to Carolina Motorsports Park to get the driver prepared and shake down the car. It was a good place to test the brakes and transmissions.
"Road courses can be real hard on the brakes. The deeper the driver can get into the turns, the faster the lap times are going to be. If we can get the brakes working so Schrader can drive deeper in the turns, then we've accomplished what we set out to do. From the time we unloaded off the truck to the last lap, Kenny had picked up three seconds on the track. Kenny was real comfortable with the car and the more laps he took, the faster he got."
SCHRADER SHOWINGS:
* Ken Schrader will be at Watsonville (Calif.) Speedway on Friday, June 25. He will sign autographs from 6:30-8 p.m. and then compete in a dirt modified stock car. He will compete against Kenny Wallace, Ernie Irvan, Vic Irvan (Ernie's dad) and Geoffrey Bodine.
