IHRA: Scott Ray Looking for Improvement in Snap-on Point Standings

17 June 1999

CORDOVA, ILL. - The Ray Bros. Racing team with driver Scott Ray bring their CARQUEST Credit Card Super Eliminator dragster to the IHRA Amalie Oil Summer Nationals, June 18-20, at Cordova Dragway Park with their sights set on getting a win to improve on their 10th place in the IHRA Snap-on Drag Racing point standings.

"We have the horsepower to win races, but we are still trying to get the right combination with the clutch," said Scott Ray, 39, an engine parts salesman at SRS Auto Parts, Inc. in Greenville, Ohio. "Once we can get the engine and the clutch combination figured out, we're going to be good."

Ray and his father Stan Ray, the crew chief and owner of the CARQUEST Credit Card dragster, have made two appearances at the race track since the Prolong Winter Nationals, competing in two Quick 8 races near their Ohio home. At those races they have worked on getting the CARQUEST Credit Card dragster down the race track consistently. At the Amalie Oil Summer Nationals, consistency will be key on the newly resurfaced Cordova -mile.

"We going to come out on our first pass conservative and try to just get to the finish line," Ray said. "No one has been down the Cordova track so it's like starting from scratch. Once we have data from what we think the track can take, they we can begin to apply the horsepower."

Super Eliminator qualifying for the IHRA Amalie Oil Summer Nationals is scheduled to begin Friday, June 19TH at 12 noon and 4:30 p.m. (CDT). Qualifying concludes, Saturday, June 20th at 12 noon and 7:30 p.m. Final eliminations are set for Sunday, June 20th at 12 noon.

Tickets for the Amalie Oil Summer Nationals are just $30 Saturday and Sunday with children 5-12 only $5. Instant results from the event are available at WWW.IHRA.COM.

ESPN2 will provide one-hour of tape-delayed coverage of the IHRA Amalie Oil Summer Nationals, Tuesday, July 27th at 3 p.m. (EDT), followed by a replay, Saturday, July 31st at 2:30 a.m.
