CART, PPG, and Toyota Give Kids a Chance to See Their Artwork Come to Life

15 June 1999

Imagine having the unique opportunity to see your artwork painted on the actual pace car for a FedEx Championship Series race this fall. That's exactly what CART and its partners PPG, Toyota and the California Speedway are offering to their younger fans.

Launched at the beginning of June, kids up to the age of 14 have the opportunity to design and color a schematic of a Toyota Solara, which will serve as the Official PPG Pace Car for The 500 presented by Toyota at The California Speedway on October 31, 1999. Completed entries will be sent in and judged.

PPG will paint the winning design on the actual Toyota Solara that will pace The 500 presented by Toyota race. Plus, the winning entrant will be awarded an all expenses paid trip, with their parent or guardian, to the race to see their design in action.

"We're thrilled to partner with PPG, Toyota and the California Speedway Staff to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to one of our younger fans," said Jeff Gooding CART's Director of Promotions. "We have stepped up our efforts in 1999 to reach out to kids as the future fans of Champ Car racing - this program does it in a big way."

"Can you imagine seeing your design circle the track in front of some of the best drivers in the world, knowing that it's not only being seen by over 100,000 people in the stands but also being seen by 60 million people internationally through TV. That would be an awesome feeling for a fan of any age, especially for a young fan."

Kids can download the official contest entry form from the CART Kids section on CART.com or by logging on to www.penskemotorsports.com. Forms will also be available at CART's merchandise trailer at the races through the Mid-Ohio event, on the FedEx Championship Series Fan Fest trailer at various events throughout the country as well as in every free membership kit of the CART Kids Fan Club presented by Target.

All entries must be received by August 15, 1999. A winner will be selected on, or around, August 22, 1999. The winner will be notified the following week and the winning designed will be posted at CART.com at the conclusion of the program.
