IROC: Indy 500 Winner Practices at Michigan
9 June 1999
Brooklyn, MI - The True Value IROC series hit the track again today in preparation for this Friday's race. The 1998 Pep Boys Indy Racing League champion and recent Indy 500 winner, Kenny Brack took to the 2.0 mile oval for the first time in his driving career."I like this track," said the Karlstad, Sweden native. "It is a driver's track, very different from Daytona and Talladega where you are just flat out all the time. Here (Michigan Speedway) you really have to think it out."
Setup and Test drivers for the True Value IROC series are Dave Marcis, Dick Trickle, and Jim Sauter. All three gave the new Indy 500 champ high scores for his efforts today. "Kenny did great, " said Jim Sauter. "He caught on right away."
Dick Trickle remarked that he, Marcis, and Sauter quietly root for the driver that practices the most. Without question, Kenny Brack has rallied all the cheers. Kenny Brack is dedicated to doing well in the IROC series.
It is plain to see he is still very pumped up from his Indy win, but in a good way. It hasn't gone to his head, and it won't.
Upon seeing IROC's Jay Signore Brack said "all I want to know is if I qualified for next year's IROC series?"
Race three of the four race series kicks off this Friday at high noon at Michigan Speedway. The race will be broadcast on ESPN this Saturday at 3:00 PM (Eastern Time).
Along with Kenny Brack, 1998 Indy 500 winner Eddie Cheever, Jr., CART FedEx Championship series driver Greg Moore are expected to practice tomorrow. CART FedEx Championship driver Adrian Fernandez will be in Thursday along with Greg Moore and the NASCAR boys will practice Friday morning at 9:00 AM.
