NHRA: JEG'S Mail Order Racing Friday Pit Notes
5 June 1999
Both the Pro Stock and Pro Stock Trucks began qualifying today at the NHRA Route 66 Fram Nationals. This facility is among the elite in motorsports.Jeg Coughlin/Pro Stock:
Jeg and Warren Johnson gave the Route 66 Raceway crowd the first side by side competitive Pro Stock run of the day. After the first session Jeg and his #2 yellow and black JEG'S machine hold down the number five position. Jeg noted, "We came out of the trailer and made a competitive run, which is a great way to start the weekend."
Jeg and his #2 JEG'S Mail Order did not improve during the second session. Jeg dropped to the number seven position. "We were a little off on the setup during the session and we expected to improve our position. The important thing is that we are making it down the race track and gaining the data that we need to make the right calls on the setup of the JEG'S car," said Jeg.
Troy Coughlin/Pro Stock:
After a disappointing DNQ at the Mopar Parts Nationals Troy bounced back in the first session. Troy and his #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass was in the number nine spot with three session remaining until the field is locked. "The car made a nice run, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. We have a good baseline to improve from," stated Troy.
Troy improved his ET during the second session but dropped to the number twelve spot. "The car took off well. Down track it moved around a little and seemed to favor the right side of the right lane. I think that we are getting close at giving the car what it wants," noted Coughlin.
Mike Coughlin/Pro Stock Truck:
After winning the Mopar parts Nationals in Englishtown, Mike Coughlin and his yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order S-10 have grabbed a lot of attention. After the first qualifying session Mike was in the number fourteen position. "We made a decent run during the first session. The truck just seemed to be missing something," said Mike.
Before the second session the team emphasized on the fuel delivery system. The weather condition were just about what they were for the first session. Mike made an improvement, but stayed in the number fourteen spot. "The truck responded well to the changes that we made. This run gives us a better baseline going into the final sesions tomorrow," said Mike.
John Coughlin/Pro Stock Truck:
Pro Stock Truck "rookie" John Coughlin showed that he could run with the big boys of the class. John posted a 7.719 @ 173.90 mph to put him in the number seven position after the first session. "The truck responded well to the setup. We are headed in the right direction and the team will focus on fine tuning my truck from here," said John.
John didn't improve his ET during the second session. He slipped to the number tweleve position and has two sessions left to improve his position before race day. "The conditions were very similar to the first session. We just didn't make as good a run as we could have, but we have two more chances tomorrow to improve," noted John.
