USAC: Elliott, Hines Snare Stoops Sprint Features

"ROBBIE STANLEY CLASSIC" SATURDAY AT LAWRENCEBURGDave Darland of Kokomo, Ind. leads the Stoops Freightliner USAC Sprint Car standings going into this Saturday night's "Robbie Stanley Classic" at the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. He has a 15-point lead over Tracy Hines after a pair of series races last week.
Hines drove Pete Willoughby's Stealth/Shaver/Hoosier Tire Special to victory in Sunday night's 30-lap race at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, leading all 30 laps to beat Darland, Tony Elliott, Kevin Doty and Brian Tyler.
Elliott, the defending series champion, won Wednesday night's "Tyson 50" at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway in his Jeff Walker Racing/Stealth/Murray's Body Shop/Jam-It-In-Storage Special after taking the lead on lap 19 when Derek Davidson spun out. Davidson was placed 19th in the official finish of the 50-lapper.
Turbines, Inc. fast qualifiers in the two events were Hines at Anderson and Darland at Eldora.
Drivers Nick Naber of Cincinnati, Ohio and Steve Surniak of Indianapolis, Ind. were transported to Coldwater (Ohio) Hospital after separate flips during Sunday's Rossburg program. Surniak suffered a concussion, while Naber was treated and released.
Saturday's timetable for the "Robbie Stanley Classic" at the 1/4-mile dirt Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway calls for practice at 6 pm and qualifying at 7. The first race is at 8.
