USAC: Fourth 'Racing for Riley' Set Saturday

26 May 1999

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Raceway Park and the United States Auto Club will host the fourth annual "Racing For Riley" go-kart race and picnic this Saturday, May 29, at Greatimes Family Entertainment Center. The center is located on the south side of Indianapolis, near the Emerson Ave. exit from I-465.

Youngsters from the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children will be "co-drivers" in the go-kart racing on Greatimes miniature road course, with the karts being driven by USAC race drivers.

"This has been a popular program for the drivers and for us over the past three years," commented John Potts, IRPs Communications Manager. "The drivers really enjoy spending time with the kids and, naturally, its a big thrill for the youngsters to be riding with real race drivers. Then in the evening they get to see some of those drivers who theyve met as they compete at IRP."

Activities connected with the event actually began last week, with drivers visiting the hospital and meeting many of the children who will be taking part.

Registration at Greatimes will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and racing will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The awards program and lunch are scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

On Saturday evening, the children and their families will be guests of IRP and USAC at the 54th annual Budweiser Night Before the 500 presented by WTTS 92.3 on IRPs .686-mile oval, featuring the MCI WorldCom USAC Midget Car Series.

Additional information may be obtained by calling Indianapolis Raceway Park at (317) 291-4090.
