NASCAR: It's One Busy Weekend for the ACDelco Team

26 May 1999

Event: CARQUEST AUTO Parts 300
Location: Lowe's Motor Speedway, Charlotte, N.C.
Time: 1:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 29, 1999
A View from the Sponsor Regarding the Weekend Ahead:

Bill Fitzgerald (Group Manager GMSPO) "We are happy to see the second Busch series driver of the No. 3 ACDelco car make the next step to Winston Cup racing (Dale Jr. follows former ACDelco driver Steve Park into the Winston Cup Series). ACDelco is very happy to be involved with a series that gives young drivers the opportunity and the exposure they need to further their racing careers. We are as excited as anyone to see what Dale Jr. can do. Dale Jr. has been a great ambassador for ACDelco and we plan on keeping an involvement with him for a long time to come. We just want to wish the whole team good luck this weekend."

A View from the Driver Regarding His Team and the Weekend Ahead:

"Tony Sr. (crew chief) has had to take a couple of guys from the ACDelco team to work on our Cup cars but I don't think it has had a negative affect on our performance to date. These guys are the hardest working bunch I have ever seen. We all have a strong desire to not only succeed but to win."

A View from the Team Regarding the Weekend Ahead:

Tony Eury Sr. (crew chief for the No. 3 ACDelco and the No. 8 Budweiser cars)

"If everything goes like we have planned then we will be right. If it doesn't, then we will be scrambling. The two guys that will be worked the hardest will Tony Jr. (car chief) and John Quinn (shock specialist), because they will be going back and forth the most."

Tony Eury Jr. (car chief)

"Getting through Wednesday is going to be the key. If we don't get the Winston Cup car qualified on Wednesday, Thursday will be hard because we will be trying to make first round in the Busch car and second round in the Cup car and practice both." Kevin Pennell (jack man)

"We'll know my take on the weekend late Sunday evening after everything is over".

John Quinn (shock specialist)

"If we aren't all standing around Monday scratching our watches and winding our hind-ends it will be a miracle."

Scott Daniels (rear tire carrier)

"It's going to be a lot of work but I think we will kick butt. The two people that have set up the cars Tony Sr. and Tony Jr. are the best in the business. I think you will see that this weekend."

Danny Earnhardt (front tire carrier)

"As long as we've got Dale Jr. driving and the team we have all stick together we won't have any problems. We just want a good finish and a good finish for this team would be top 10 in both races. I am glad I am involved in this whole deal, especially because I am Dale Jr.'s uncle. You never know what the future holds."

David Lippard (catch can man)

"Monday a week will be a good time to look back and reflect on a very busy week and be thankful it is over."

Brian Cram (fabricator and general mechanic)

"Crazy - hectic - long. It feels like something is not done because we have been doing so many things lately, but I know that we have covered all the bases. Just the fact that we have been able to build the Winston Cup cars without hiring any extra help shows the strength and depth of this team. I am just excited to be a part of it all."

Kevin Eagle (gasman)

"I am looking forward to the weekend. It is what all the guys in racing (drivers and crew members) dream of - moving on to Winston Cup. The 600 race is like three 200-mile Busch races in one day. There is no difference for us other than a few more pit stops. This team has raced Winston Cup before with both Jeff Green and Steve Park, so it isn't totally new to us. It is going to be fun and you get to do it in front of 200,000 people. We are not racing for points, so the only pressure is to do the best we can."

Sonny McCurdy (Truck driver and utility)

"I just hope we have a nice uneventful week."

Steve Crisp (Business manager and spotter)

"I would do this for free just to be part of it. The weekend is going to be like "Baptism by fire". The Winston Cup car is getting so much attention that it adds additional demands that are at a different level than the Busch pressures. This whole team is ready to start their Winston Cup careers. Although it's hectic, it is about as good of a situation as any race team has, when they make the next move in their careers. Dale Earnhardt Inc., ACDelco and Budweiser have all done everything within their power to make this next step for Dale Jr. and the team as spectacular as possible. It is special for all of us."

"B" Hoover (general mechanic)

"I think we have a shot at the pole and a top ten finish. I think we are very focused on the both cars and I believe we will have a great weekend."

Keith Manch (tire specialist)

"It should be an interesting weekend for all of us. It is going to be a lot of work but I think we are ready for it. Our testing at Charlotte went well with the Busch and Winston Cup car, so I know we are ready."

Karen Masencup (scorer)

"I am happy and feel fortunate to be a part of this team's first Winston cup race with Dale Jr. I am glad that this team has been given the opportunity to make the next step in racing. They proved they can set-up a Winston Cup car here when they tested. We will see when it comes time to race."
