NASCAR: Schrader and the Oakwood Homes Team Test at Lowe's Motor Speedway
26 May 1999
On Monday, May 17, Schrader tested the Oakwood Homes Chevrolet at Lowe's Motor Speedway, clocking the second fastest time."We came off the truck running a 30.90," said crew chief Chris Carrier. "We stayed on those same tires the whole day and never made a bonsai run again. The test answered a lot of questions for us, and we had the opportunity to experiment with shocks. We have a good motor, so we think we'll be pretty good."
The car the team will utilize at Charlotte is the same car they ran at Atlanta earlier this year. They were running 11th when they were involved in an accident and forced to retire from the race. The car also ran at Charlotte last October before engine problems forced them to retire early. Schrader will make his 18th start in the Busch Series at Charlotte this weekend. He has five top-five and six top-10 finishes in his 17 previous starts.
SCHRADER'S STATEMENTS
"I feel pretty good about our chances at Charlotte," said Schrader. "We were having a good run here last year when we had engine troubles. Charlotte is one of my favorite tracks. It offers a lot of room to pass anywhere on the track. I have had several good runs there and even a Winston Cup win. I was real happy with the Busch Series test, so we look forward to having a good finish."
ANN AND DOROTHY SCHRADER TO TAKE EUROPEON VACATION
On Friday, June 4, Ken Schrader's wife Ann and daughter Dorothy will leave for a two-week educational tour of Europe. They will travel with 40 other people, including some friends and family.
"The tour starts in Germany," said Ann. "We will visit France, London, Austria and some other places. I have never been to Europe so we figured we would do the tourist thing. I didn't miss any races last year, so the only downfall is that I will miss Dover and Michigan."
