NHRA: Jeter Hopes to Add to Numbers at Atlanta
14 May 1999
Commerce, Ga. - - "Were still following our game plan for this season," said Brad Jeter, 24, of Greenville, S.C., as he prepared to take to the track for the first session of qualifying at the Advance Auto parts Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga. "We want our points to add up by qualifying as high as we can, then by going as many rounds as possible during eliminations. You cant have any mental let down with this plan."Unfortunately, I had brain fade at the Houston race and got buried with a hole shot (other driver leaves before you do at the green light) even though I had the better elapsed time," reflected Jeter. "At Richmond, I had my head square on my shoulders again and came away with the win. I need more races like the Richmond event."
Jeter is currently number two in the NHRA/Winston Pro Stock Truck point standings. In the four events that have been held thus far this season for trucks, Jeter has two final round appearances and one victory to his credit. He hopes to add to those numbers here at Atlanta Dragway.
"This Karl Chevrolet S-10 truck is awesome. With support from Chevrolet and the engine power of Bill Grumpy Jenkins we have a truck capable of winning any race. If I do my job we can drive this truck all the way to the winner's circle here at this race. Im focused," added Jeter. "Ill stay focused.
"We know that it still early in the season to start thinking championship, but if you dont grab every point you can early in the season, you may not have a chance at the championship later in the year," said Jeter as he and the crew made final preparations for the first session of qualifying."
