NASCAR GDS: Huffman Dominates Caraway; Collects Second Consecutive Win

12 May 1999

ASHEBORO, NC - Defending 1998 Goodys Dash Series NASCAR Touring Division champion Robert Huffman dominated the Caraway 100 to win his second consecutive Goodys Dash event. Huffman, who led flag-to-flag, held off a late race challenge from Johnny Chapman and collected $3,580 with the win and added to his points lead over David Hutto (530-444).

"The car was just awesome," added Huffman. "We worked really hard to get the set up right for qualifying and it carried over into the race. We felt like we were due here and it was great to get the win on such a beautiful night for racing here at Caraway."

Huffman held leads as large and three seconds only to have to hold off Hutto and Chapman with six laps to go in the 125 lap event. Hutto and Chapman made contact on lap 122 which sent Hutto spinning in turn two and brought out the last of eight caution flags during the race. Huffman held off Chapman to win by one second. Joey Miller collected his first ever top-five finish to lead all rookies and took home the NAPA Oil Filters Rookie of the Race award and the $400 check that comes with his honor.
