USAC: Leffler Annexes 'Billy Vukovich Memorial' at Madera

MIDGETS HEAD FOR HANFORD; TQs AND SPRINTS AT IRWINDALEMCI WorldCom USAC National Midget Car Champion Jason Leffler of Long Beach, Calif. captured Saturday night's "Billy Vukovich Memorial" race at Madera (Calif.) Speedway, leading the final 23 laps of the 30-lap MCI WorldCom Western Midget Car feature on the 1/3-mile paved oval.
Leffler passed Chad Nichols on lap eight and never looked back in his Beast/Valley Oil/Mid-Coast Transport Pink-powered machine. Fast qualifier Jay Drake took second, followed by John Starks, series point leader Marc DeBeaumont and Shane Scully.
DeBeaumont continues to lead the MCI WorldCom Western Midget Car Series standings over Scully going into this Saturday night's race at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. A 30-lap feature is planned at Hanford.
The MCIWorldCom USAC TQ Midget Cars and Western Sprint Cars combine this Saturday night for a "doubleheader" racing program at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. A 20-lap TQ feature on the track's 1/3-mile paved oval precedes the 30-lap Sprint race on the 1/2-mile.
