NASCAR BGN: Kevin Grubb Anxiouis to Return to NHIS

4 May 1999

Central City, KY - Mechanicsville, Virginia resident Kevin Grubb can't wait to compete in the Busch 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at the New Hampshire International Speedway on May 8, and for good reason. It's the site of his NASCAR Busch Series debut, his first NASCAR Busch Series career top 10 finish and his career best NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start and finish.

Grubb made his NASCAR Busch Series debut on May 10, 1997 and scored his firsttop 10 finish (8th place finish) on May 9, 1998.

"Surprisingly, I love racing at New Hampshire," said Grubb, driver of the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "It's the only flat-track I do well on and it seems to match my driving style. I still prefer racing on high-banked speedways and short tracks though."

In four starts on the 1.058 mile oval, Grubb has proven to be a solid contender.

He immediately adapted to the track's unique configuration. In his first start, the 1997 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, the 21-year-old driver posted the sixth fastest lap in qualifying and finished 11th.

"I've had some good runs, but never great runs there," continued Grubb. "I've run in the top 10 nearly every time but something, whether it be a bad pit stop, cut tire or whatever, always seems to drop me back in the field. Then I have to fight my way back to the front. I've probably passed more cars at New Hampshire then at any other race track and passing there is very tough to do."

Grubb's debut in the NASCAR Busch Series at New Hampshire International Speedway was far from outstanding (he finished 38th), but it taught him the discipline necessary to be competitive in challenging series.

"I'll never forget my first race," continued Grubb. "I quickly learned what it takes to be a contender in this series. Each time I return to New Hampshire, it reminds me of how far I've come."
