NASCAR GDS: Britts Leading NAPA Filters Rookie of the Year Chase

30 April 1999

HICKORY, NC ) - Jimmy Britts, driving the # 88 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series FAST WAX, Crane & Rigging Services, NAPA Pontiac, took on the legendary Hickory Motor Speedway Saturday night, starting with an impressive 6th fastest lap in qualifying. On the first lap of the race Jimmy moved in to 5th place and on lap 11 passed Johnny Chapman for 4th. A spin and crash by race leader Terry Brooks and the #88 was in 3rd place, which Britts maintained until a caution flag on lap 81. On the restart a love tap from the 4th place car of Chapman sent Jimmy on a wild spinning ride down the front stretch. A trip to the pits to check for damage put the #88 car a lap down with 18 to go. With the car running on 5 cylinders Jimmy was still able to regain a few positions and crossed the finish line 12th place.

Jimmy maintained his lead in the Rookie of the Year points and moved from 5th to 3rd in the Series overall points standings, trailing former Goodys Dash Champions Robert Huffman and David Hutto.

Britts, the 95 NASCAR All Pro Series Rookie of the Year and 96 Florida Pro Series Champion, is running for the NAPA Filters Rookie of the Year Award and the NASCAR Goody's Dash Championship. Cornerstone Racing's associate sponsors are NAPA Racing Filters, Martin Senour Paints, NAPA Exide Batteries, Action Welding, Shoei Helmets, Racerz Footwear, S Line Motorsports, Bassett Wheels, Mechanix Wear and Southern Speed Custom Race Cars.
