IRL: Rain Washes Out Opening Day of Visionaire 500 Practice

CONCORD, N.C. - Persistent rain forced the cancellation of the opening day of practice for the Pep Boys Indy Racing League VisionAire 500 on Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Nortel Networks Pole Qualifying for the PPG Pole remains scheduled for 6:15 p.m. (EDT) Friday. A practice session will start at 2:15 p.m. Friday, with an autograph session with all Pep Boys Indy Racing League drivers at 8:45 p.m. in the garage area.

The third annual VisionAire 500, a 208-lap race on the 1.5-mile oval, is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Saturday. The final Pep Boys Indy Racing League practice starts at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

VISIONAIRE 500 NOTEBOOK

On the air: The VisionAire 500 will be televised live, starting with a 30-minute prerace show at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, on SpeedVision. It's the network's first live broadcast of a Pep Boys Indy Racing League race. FOX Sports Net will rebroadcast the race May 6. Check local listings for air time.

SpeedVision will televise PPG Pole qualifying live at 6 p.m. Friday. The Indy Racing Radio Network will broadcast a 30-minute prerace show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the live race broadcast at 8 p.m. The Charlotte-area IRRN affiliate is WSOC-FM, 103.7, Charlotte.
