NASCAR Trucks: Butch Miller to Pull 'Double Duty' in 1999

Lebanon, Tenn. -Veteran racer Butch Miller will be active in two racing series in 1999. He will continue to be the driver of the familiar blue and white #18 Bobby Hamilton Racing Dana Dodge on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, but he will also try something a little different this year.

For the first time in his 30-year career in motorsports, Miller will step out of the driver's cockpit and into the broadcast booth. Miller, who has competed in just about every major series in the country will serve as the race analyst for 13 of the 20 races run by the American Speed Association (ASA) in 1999. The events will be produced by Silver Fox Sports in Charlotte, North Carolina and televised by FOX Sports Network, TNN, and SPEEDVISION respectively.

"This is going to be a lot of fun," said Miller. "The ASA series was very good to me for a number of years. So it's always exciting to go back and see the people that helped you get to where you are today. The other good thing about this is that it's great to get the opportunity to give something back to the ASA series."

John Petrie, President of Silver Fox Sports approached Miller, a three-time ASA champion and holder of countless records in the series about joining the broadcast crew and Miller was overwhelmed. It took him about two seconds to decide to do it.

"We wanted to have a driver personality to talk about the drivers perspective during the race," said Petrie. "Butch fit just what we were looking for. We needed someone that had good credibility with the ASA fans and who better than a three-time champion of the series. He also has the ability to give insights into what the drivers are doing and thinking that may not be obvious to the fans."

Miller's first priority remains the #18 Dana team, and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, but this opportunity will give Miller a chance to pull information from another perspective.

"We're very pleased with Butch doing the ASA broadcasts," said Armedee Nadeau, Manager of Dana Motorsports. "It's a good opportunity for him to see things from a different angle."
