NASCAR-BGN: Fuller Among the Many Victims in Talladega

27 April 1999

TALLADEGA, AL - Many racers have come to expect the "Big One" when the NASCAR Busch Series races at Talladega Superspeedway. The Big what you ask? The big wreck. This time the "Big One" occurred on lap 69 of the Touchstone Energy 300 and it involved over 20 cars. Many cars were damaged beyond repair, including the Heritage Consumer Products Chevrolet of Jeff Fuller.

The accident started ahead of Fuller when Ken Schrader turned sideways and others began trying to elude his car. One thing led to another and a major pileup occurred in turn one. The day was history for Fuller, placing him in 32nd finishing position. Prior to the accident, Fuller had started to move up through the field, working his way into position for a solid finish.

"We all knew the wreck was coming, unfortunately we were in it," Fuller said. "I thought we were working our way up through the field at a nice pace until the accident. Oh well, next week we will be in California, and the next restrictor plate race will be 10 months away."

Terry Labonte edged Joe Nemechek in a photo finish to claim the victory. Next up for Fuller will be the Auto Club 200 at California Speedway on May 1st at 2:00pm EDT.
