Truck Racing: Next Stop for P.A.R.T.S. Series is Concord

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Competitors in the Professional Association of Racing Trucks (PARTS) Pro Truck Series will visit Concord Motorsports Park this weekend. It is the third stop on the 12-race 1999 schedule.

Randy Gilbert of Dallas, Ga. comes into the event on a two-race winning streak. Gilbert drove his Lark Portable Buildings Chevrolet to wins at Lanier National Speedway in Gainesville, Ga. and USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla.

Kevin Barrett won both PARTS events at the Concord facility last season on his way to winning five of the 10 races and winning the 1998 championship. Barrett is off to a slow start this year, but hopes to claim his first win of the season when he introduces a new truck at Concord.

Other drivers to watch this weekend include J.C. Beattie, a college student from Baltimore, Md. Another young driver, Derek Hagen from Cadillac, Mich. ran strong during the first two events.

Fredrick Moore of Gainesville, Ga. is currently second in the point standings. This is his first year on the PARTS tour and will be looking to put his Cycle Sorcery Chevrolet into Victory Lane.

The 1998 PARTS Rookie of the Year Butch Gafnea of McCalla, Ala. won three races last year and would also like to score his first win of the new season at Concord Motorsports Park.

Practice for the PARTS Pro Truck Series trucks will be Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. Saturday's activity will begin with practice beginning at noon and the first race is scheduled to get underway at 6:15 p.m.
