Team JEG'S Looks to Continue Their Assault on NHRA Pro Stock Title

17 April 1999

The JEG'S Mail Order Racing Team has had a productive year so far in 1999. Pro Stock brother's Jeg and Troy Coughlin currently sit in the number three and four spots respectfully in the '99 NHRA Winston points. With a total of four races under their belt and eighteen races remaining, the season is far from over.

JEG'S Mail Order Racing team advisor/father Jeg Coughlin Sr., "Houston wasn't particularly kind to us. However, this is one race out of a 22-race NHRA schedule. Our team remains 100% committed to winning the Pro Stock Championship this year." The JEG'S Pro Stock Racing Team started off the season by having the ultimate final, an all-JEG'S final. "Our team has the resources, knowledge, experience, and most of all the 100% commitment from everyone involved in our program to win!"

Jeg, who resides in the number three spot with 274 points said, "I am really looking forward to getting back into my car after our performance in Houston. We struggled throughout the weekend to get a setup that the car reacted well to. The team learned a lot this weekend, which is extremely important to us." Jeg had an uncharacteristic first round departure from competition at the O'Reilly Nationals presented by Pennzoil. The #2 JEG'S Mail Order Cutlass is 58 points behind Warren Johnson and 133 point defect to current series points leader Kurt Johnson. "Our team is as hungry as ever for a win! It's important that we remain focused, there are plenty of races left in the '99 NHRA season. Our goal is to win the '99 NHRA Winston Pro Stock Championship," noted Coughlin.

The older brother of the Coughlin Pro Stock duo, Troy looks to get back on track at the Castor Lone Star Nationals. After starting the '99 season with the most consistent finishing car in Pro Stock (back to back runner-up & semifinal round appearance), Troy and the team are committed to get the consistency back after a disappointing DNQ in Houston. "Things just weren't gelling. We tried different setups and the car just didn't respond well. We went back into our data and went to a setup that we were comfortable with in the third qualifying session, which gave us a good baseline to work from. In the final session we were just too aggressive and my car headed straight for the wall and I had to shutoff," said Coughlin. Troy has 266 points and is in the number four position in the '99 NHRA Winston points. He trails his younger brother Jeg by a mere 8 points, Warren by 66 points and leader Kurt Johnson by 141.
