NASCAR-BGN: Team Barbasol Hires Jamie Jones as Crew Chief

7 April 1999

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Akins/Sutton Motorsports named Jamie Jones as crew chief for Team Barbasol and driver Glenn Allen, announced Bob Sutton Jr., co-owner of Akins/Sutton Motorsports. Jones is expected to begin duties following Saturdays in Bristol, Tenn.

Jones began his racing career in Virginia in the mid-80s as crew chief for Elton Sawyers NASCAR Winston Racing Series team which won Mid-Atlantic Region titles in 1984 and 1985. The relationship lasted for nearly a decade before Jones moved to North Carolina to join the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division in 1994. He spent time with BACE Motorsports and was the car chief for Johnny Benson when he won the NASCAR Busch Series title in 1995. Since 1996, Jones has spent time maturing his crew chief skills.

Sutton and Barbasol Racing car chief Bobby Bakeeff will share crew chief duties this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Jones will start as crew chief on Monday, April 12.

Allen posted a top-10 finish in the 1998 Moores Snacks 250 at Bristol. Allen has started five of seven races on the Busch schedule this season. His best finish was ninth at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
