ATLANTIC, BUSINESS: Lynx's New Lair

5 April 1999

Lynx Racing, the championship-winning driver development program, has announced the selection of Trailer Technologies, based in Walled Lake, Michigan, as the official race trailer supplier to the team.

Lynx's new lair, a 53-ft trailer custom-built by Trailer Technologies to team-supplied specifications, will make its debut in the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic paddock at the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix Presented by Toyota at Nazareth Speedway, May 1-2.

"We chose Trailer Technologies because they're a forward-thinking company with an innovative approach and dedication to excellence that is completely in concert with our team philosophy," says Lynx Racing Team Manager Steve Cameron. "The trailer we've used for the past five years was oriented toward functionality, with barely a thought to appearance. When we decided to upgrade our presentation, the custom-built capabilities that Trailer Technologies offers allowed us to create a rolling race shop that both enhance our at-the-track capabilities and reflect the level of excellence for which Lynx Racing is known."

Not only will the team use the new trailer as its base of operations during testing and races, it will also serve as an on-site advertising and marketing tool for Trailer Technologies' personnel to use as a 'demonstrator' in showcasing its product to different race teams and sponsors.

"What makes Trailer Technologies different is that we're a bunch of current and ex-racers around here, and we know that every race team has different needs, so we build every trailer to their particular specifications," says Trailer Technologies President Jack Syer. "We also have the longest list of special packages and equipment in the industry, and the most innovative design team, so we can build a trailer to suit any need. Our deal with Lynx is to provide them with something that is not only functional but also accurately reflects the image and success of the team, which means that they're going to have the best-looking, trickest, highest-quality trailer in the Atlantic paddock."

Lynx Racing's new trailer will be trimmed in polished stainless steel panels, painted with PPG polyurethane and equipped with both a combination driver's lounge/computer engineering station and a full-length, fully-enclosed awning. Inside the fully-finished interior is an upper deck for car storage, stainless steel workbenches, recessed lighting, provisions for a shock absorber dyno, non-slip flooring and lightweight cabinetry with Lista parts drawer assemblies. Also part of the package are an aluminum liftgate, diesel generator and 5-ton air conditioning unit.

Trailer Technologies designs and builds more than 100 trailers every year for customers that include Detroit's 'Big 3' auto manufacturers, racing teams and sanctioning bodies, racing schools and firms that specialize in the transportation of exotic and classic automobiles.

The company is also a major player in the 'exhibit' segment of the market, such as the pair of trailers they built for the Federal Highway Administration that contain an extensive technology display as well as 20 computer workstations. Or the Trane Travelling Showcase built for the air-conditioning manufacturer that has 30-by-7-ft. expanding walls, an indoor waterfall, trees, stone, greenery and a ceiling that simulates the sky. Trailer Technologies is even working on the concept of a totally mobile, 300-bed hospital contained in 16 trailers that could be moved to disaster sites around the world and set up in a day.

Lynx Racing, owned by Peggy Haas and Jackie Doty, is a unique driver development program now in its ninth year of operation. The team's mission is to seek out young drivers with championship potential and provide them with the resources and training to realize that potential. Lynx currently competes in the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship with drivers Buddy Rice and Mike Conte, and in the Star Mazda Championship with Sara Senske.

Lynx alumni include CART/FedEx drivers Patrick Carpentier (the 1996 Atlantic champion and 1997 CART Rookie of the Year) and Alex Barron (the Atlantic Rookie of the Year and series champion in 1997).
