NASCAR-BGN: Kevin Grubb Track Notes (Texas)

26 March 1999

WELCOME HOME: Tommy Chandler grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky and dreamed of a career in NASCAR racing. Like so many other Owensboro residents who have made a career in big league stock car racing, he headed to Mooresville, North Carolina to follow his dream.

With most NASCAR teams located near Mooresville, it has always been a necessity for aspiring NASCAR drivers and crew members to relocate. Many have left behind friends and family.

Brewco Motorsports, located 30 miles south of Owensboro in Central City, Kentucky, is quickly becoming a popular option for the numerous NASCAR crew members who call the Bluegrass State home.

Chandler joins the No. 37 Timber Wolf/Brewco Motorsports team, with driver Kevin Grubb, as an engine specialist after a 4 1/2 year stint in Mooresville working at Pro Motors and Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. His duties include all engine preparation before heading to the track and engine tuning at the track.

"It's great to be back home," said Chandler. "Brewco Motorsports is a great opportunity. Not only because it allows me to move back to Owensboro, it's also a solid team with a strong future."

Brewco Motorsports General Manager Todd Wilkerson is very pleased with the team's popularity with Kentucky natives. "When we started the team in 1995, it was difficult to find good, experienced people," said Wilkerson. "Many quality NASCAR crew members are originally from Owensboro but have left to follow their dream. Our team, being based so close to their home, is an option they never had before. It has allowed us to hire experience.

"We are building for the future and Tommy reinforces our program," continued Wilkerson. "He gives the Timber Wolf team depth. We welcome him home."

ITS NAME IS LOUIE: The No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo that Kevin Grubb is driving at Texas Motor Speedway is the same car that led 66 laps and finished seventh in last season's Coca-Cola 300.

ASSOCIATE SPONSOR: Tetco Mobil Stores is an associate sponsor on the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the Coca-Cola 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. COME SEE ME IN NASHVILLE: Kevin Grubb (along with Casey Atwood and Kerry Earnhardt) will sign autographs at the Murfreesboro Mall in Murfreesboro, Tennessee from 5:00-7:00 pm on March 31 and at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tennessee from 7:00- 9:00 pm on April 1.

NEW ENGINE PROGRAM: The Timber Wolf/Brewco Motorsports team has signed with Fisher Engineering to supply engines for No. 37 Chevrolet, with driver Kevin Grubb, for the remainder of the 1999 season. The Central City, Kentucky-based team worked with Fisher Engineering in 1997 in the NASCAR Busch Series and most recently with its former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team in 1998.

"We are happy to be working with Fisher Engineering again in 1999," said Brewco Motorsports President Clarence Brewer, Jr. "They have an awesome package and we are confident they will help elevate our program to the next level."
