SCCA: SpeedVision Drives World Challenge Resurgence, Commits $1.6 M

26 March 1999

ENGLEWOOD, Colo--The Speedvision Network and SCCA Pro Racing are set to launch an unprecedented marketing campaign to attract new race fans and enhance the profile of the Speedvision World Challenge Championships with $1.6 million in promotional support, an exceptional television package and three new series logos, created to help develop an independent identity for the GT and Touring Car Championships.

Speedvision will provide more than $1.6 million in promotional support to showcase the action and highlight the variety of participating manufactures. Beginning in March, the network will air an extensive schedule of image-building promotional spots, followed by additional spots highlighting upcoming series events that will run more than 60 times per race week throughout the season on Speedvision and the Fox Sports Net.

More than one million of the promotional budget has been committed to off-network marketing support to create additional exposure through print, television and radio vehicles. Multi-page advertising units and inserts will begin running in May issues of major automotive publications (AutoWeek, Motortrend, Road & Track, Racer and On Track), niche performance magazines (Max Speed and Super Street) and general audience publications (MAXIM and Stuff).

"We are excited to bring comprehensive coverage of America's best sprint-format GT and Touring Car series to our growing audience," said Roger Werner Jr., Speedvision Network President and CEO. "We look forward to helping establish the Speedvision GT and Touring Car Championships as one of the preeminent road racing series in North America. Speedvision's involvement with World Challenge goes well beyond the race broadcasts. Our commitment to be involved in every aspect of the marketing and development will help ensure that awareness and excitement for the series will continue to grow."

The 1999 Speedvision World Challenge will enjoy the most comprehensive broadcast television package in its 10-year history with over 44 hours of programming planned on both Speedvision and the Fox Sports Net. The television package will feature hour-long, prime time broadcasts of each GT and Touring Car race with up to two re-airs per race. Race broadcasts will include coverage from multiple on-site cameras and in-car cameras. Additionally, drivers will be miked to provide the insider's perspective that is so closely associated with Speedvision's motorsports coverage. Speedvision will wrap up its season coverage with half-hour, year-end review programs.

Graphically, the Speedvision World Challenge will feature three new logos, one for the Speedvision World Challenge Championships as the umbrella series, and one for each of the series' two championships: the Speedvision GT Championship and the Speedvision Touring Car Championship. "The new logos are integral to establishing a distinct identity for the Speedvision GT and Touring Car Championships, as well as the World Challenge as a whole," said Mitch Wright, World Challenge General Manager.

"Speedvision's extensive marketing and promotional agenda demonstrates a new level of commitment to the World Challenge and these new logos signify this new direction and focus."
