NASCAR WCUP: M&M's(R) Racing Team Texas Pre Race Notes
24 March 1999
Ernie Irvan has a strong record at the intermediate tracks including Charlotte, Atlanta, Vegas and Texas. In all, Irvan has 19 top-10 finishes including 11 top fives at tracks 1.5 miles long. The "M&Ms" Racing Team is off to its best start in three years of competition. With two top-10 finishes in five starts, as well as a 14th-place finish in the Daytona 500, the crew has an average finishing position of 16th in five starts. The team is also 11th in the points standings. At the same point in the season last year, the team was 19th in points with an average finishing position of 21st.
Hard work and experience is paying off for the team and the performance of the "M&Ms" Racing Team speaks for itself, but whos to say the addition of the Red, Yellow and Blue characters to the paint scheme this year didnt add a little extra horsepower.
Ernie Irvans thoughts on racing at Texas Motor Speedway...
"I think Texas is going to be a lot like Charlotte and Atlanta," said Ernie Irvan, driver of the No. 36 "M&Ms" Pontiac, about the reconfiguration of the Texas track. All the testing thats gone on there and the times teams have run now seems to correspond to Atlanta and Charlotte. At first Texas had its problems, and it may still have some flaws, but I think it is going to be a much better race track."
