NASCAR WCUP: Texas Motor Speedway Ready for Green Flag

23 March 1999

FORT WORTH - DALLAS - Texas Motor Speedway is ready for the green flag as workers put the finishing touches on race week preparations. Ballfield logos, clean-up, and last-minute details are being taken care of as the speedway gears up for the largest sporting event in Texas.

A few "fun" facts to note about Texas Motor Speedway include:

SUPER BOWL MANIA - The sell-out crowd at the PRIMESTAR 500 will be almost three times as large as the number of fans in attendance at the 1998 Super Bowl.

FLAPPIN IN THE BREEZE - More than 225 flag poles with NASCAR and sponsor flags will billow in the breeze during race weekend.

POTTY PARITY - The speedway offers 2,450 toilets with two womens fixtures for every mens toilet - that includes hand dryers.

CAMP-O-RAMA - With more than 6,000 available spaces, the speedway camping grounds are ready for those staying overnight with a 5,100 square-foot restroom facility, complete with 44 shower stalls, located outside the speedway at Victory Circle and Allison Avenue. There are two infield restroom facilities with 29 shower stalls in each building.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS - Situated on 16 acres, the Village of Champions services more than 24,000 people before a major race event in more than 65 tents. In comparison, Reunion Arena, located in Dallas, hosts 18,000 people when the Mavericks NBA basketball team is in town.

PULL UP A SEAT - The Village of Champions uses more than 22,000 chairs, 3,000 tables, and 7,800 feet of temporary split-railing fence during an event.

THE RATING GAME - NASCAR is second only to the NFL in television ratings, beating out traditional sports leagues such as the NBA, MLB, and NHL.

MAKE A SPLASH - Enough Coke, Naya water, coffee, and hot chocolate were purchased in 1998 to fill the 34,000 gallon Texas-shaped pool at Lone Star Tower Clubhouse.

AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR - Speedway Motorsports, Inc (SMI) is a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports entertainment in the United States. SMI owns and operates the following premiere facilities: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Lowes Motor Speedway (Concord, N.C.), Sears Point Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway. SMI also provides event food, beverage, and souvenir merchandising services through its Finish Line Events subsidiary, and manufactures and distributes smaller-scale, modified racing cars through its 600 Racing subsidiary.
