ALMS: PTG BMW M3 - Halfway at Sebring
21 March 1999
PROTOTYPE TECHNOLOGY GROUP BMW M31999 SUPERFLO 12 HOURS AT SEBRING, GT CLASS
after six hours, March 20
At the halfway mark of the 12 Hours at Sebring endurance race, the Prototype Technology Group (PTG) BMW M3 cars are second and fourth in the GT class.
The #7 car driven by Mark Simo, Brian Cunningham and Johannes van Overbeek is pushing for the class lead from 15th place overall. The #10 M3 driven by Boris Said, Hans Stuck and Peter Cunningham is 18th overall, after incurring extra time in the pits while brake pads and the ignition box were replaced.
TOM MILNER, PTG team owner:
"We have still have a long ways to go. But right now we're six to eight seconds faster [per lap] than the lead car. So anything can happen."
PETER CUNNINGHAM, #10 PTG BMW M3 driver:
"We're only halfway. We've had some problems thus far, but we rebounded back to turn in some steady, fast laps. We'll see if the luck evens out in the next six hours."
BRIAN CUNNINGHAM, #7 PTG BMW M3 driver:
"We're halfway and running strong. Everything has run smoothly all day and we're doing nice consistent laps. We made a mistake when we called ourselves in for a pitstop when we didn't need to. Otherwise we'd be on the lead lap. But if everything holds together, we'll be on top at the end."
