NASCAR BGN: Kevin Grubb Suffers Setback at Atlanta Motor Speedway
13 March 1999
Hampton, GA - "This has got to be the lowest point in my career.," said Kevin Grubb.A crash in first-round qualifying for the Yellow Freight 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway which destroyed the primary No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo, coupled with a poor showing in second-round qualifying, forced Kevin Grubb and the Brewco Motorsports team to pack up early for the second consecutive race. It's the second DNQ (did not qualify) for Grubb and the Central City, Kentucky based team in 1999.
The Mechanicsville, Virginia resident's lap times in practice were plenty fast to make the 43 car starting field, but as he approached the finish line during his qualifying lap, the No. 37 car spun into the outside wall
"It didn't give a warning," said Grubb. "As I was coming off of four, it got loose and the rest is history. We had a super fast car. We tested fast here last month and we were among the top five in the morning practice. This is very difficult to swallow, but we wont let it get us down. We know we are a solid team with a strong future. We just need to catch a break."
