NASCAR WCUP: Schrader looking forward to Atlanta

12 March 1999

Ken Schrader

"Atlanta has been a pretty good track for me in the past, so I am looking forward to the race this weekend," said Schrader. "After a decent run in last falls race [finished seventh], I am ready to get back to a track where the Skoal Racing team has a good race set-up. Atlanta Motor Speedway is a track where we had struggled in the past, but we had a good car and a good run last November so I think we made significant gains there.

"I am real disappointed with how the Skoal Racing team ran at Las Vegas last weekend. We thought we would be better than last year, but obviously we have some work to do at that track."

CREW CHIEF SHOP TALK:

"We are basically bringing the same car that Kenny ran at Atlanta last fall," said Sam Johns. "We took this car to the wind tunnel and found areas that could be improved as far as aerodynamics are concerned. We worked cut off the fenders, the sides and the quarter panels to improve the aerodynamics of the car. The only sheet metal we didnt touch on the car was the roof, hood and deck lid.

"The No. 55 team tested in Atlanta and we will take some of the data they learned and apply it to the No. 33 Skoal Racing team. Mostly, we will try the shock and spring combinations that they tried on the car during testing."

SKOAL RACING TEAM NEWS: After departing from Las Vegas Sunday night, the Schraders and the Petrees spent two days in Yellowstone National Park snowmobiling.

"We had an awesome time, it was unbelievable," said Schrader. "Even though Andy and Patty had never been before, they caught on quick and really had a great time. It might turn into an annual event."
