NASCAR WCUP: 'M&M's' Racing Team Atlanta Pre Race Notes

11 March 1999

Ernie Irvans Atlanta Motor Speedway Highlights...
Ernie Irvan, driver of the No. 36 "M&Ms" Pontiac, picked up his 11th career Winston Cup victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the spring of 1994.

In 19 career Winston Cup starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Irvan has eight top-10 performances including six top fives and one win.

Irvan has traditionally experienced the most success in the spring at the Georgia track. In 10 starts in the spring event, Irvan has five top-five finishes. His most recent top five was a second-place finish in the spring of 1997.

Irvan and the "M&Ms" Racing Team had an outstanding performance in the Las Vegas 400 last weekend. After starting 40th, the No. 36 "M&Ms" Pontiac found its groove and marched through the field. The No. 36 M&Ms Pontiac improved 34 positions on the day to finish in the sixth position.

Ernie Irvans thoughts on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway...

"After such a good run at Las Vegas, I cant wait to get back on another track that size," said Irvan, driver of the No. 36 "M&Ms" Pontiac. "Ive had some pretty good runs at Atlanta, and have even won at the track. For some reason it seems like I have my best finishes in the spring and my best qualifying spots in the fall. Its our plan for this weekend to have a good start and a good finish to bring home a win for the "M&Ms" Racing Team."
