NASCAR WCUP: Martin, Burton Hope History Repeats Itself in Texas
10 March 1999
FORT WORTH-DALLAS - Roush Racing teammates Mark Martin and Jeff Burton are both coming off a weekend win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The two would love nothing better than a repeat performance at the March 28 PRIMESTAR 500 Winston Cup and March 27 Coca-Cola 300 Busch Series races at Texas Motor Speedway.Martin and Burton have laid a yellow brick road from Texas Motor Speedways 1.5-mile superspeedway to Victory Lane, claiming the top prize in three of the four Winston Cup and Busch Series events held the past two seasons. Martin captured last years Winston Cup 500-miler and the inaugural Coca-Cola 300 in 1997. Burton came home first in the inaugural Winston Cup 500 in 1997. Only Dale Earnhardt Jr.s Coca-Cola 300 win last year has broken the teammates streak.
Both are pulling double duty for this years NASCAR weekend, entered in the Coca-Cola 300 and PRIMESTAR 500. The past two NASCAR weekends have been dominated by the duo with Burton taking the checkered flag at the Rockingham Busch Series race and Martin the Winston Cup event. The roles were reversed last weekend in Las Vegas with Martin the Busch dominator and Burton the Winston Cup winner.
"Im looking forward to the weekend (in Texas)," said Burton. "I think the speedway is going to be faster since its was reconfigured. I think its just going to be better racing all the way around. Its going to give more drivers the chance to stay competitive and win."
Tickets are available for the PRIMESTAR 500 and Coca-Cola 300 from the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office, through the speedways ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500, on the speedways website, www.texasmotorspeedway.com or at Texas TicketMaster locations.
